Saint Angel's Castle Rome

Castel Sant’Angelo is the ancient Medieval Fortress built on the  emperor Adriano's tomb, in the II century a. d. Its structure symbolizes the continuity between past and present in Rome, where ancient buildings were used to carry out new functions .
Because of its position was used as defensive bastion linked to Pope's palaces by a high passage (“passetto”). This castle was famous also because of its prisons described by Benvenuto Cellini who adventurously escaped from.
Visit the Bridge of the Angels (Ponte degli Angeli) with the statues of Bernini, in the past they meant to the pilgrims they where going to reach their destination: Saint Peter's Grave.
Castel Sant'Angelo is one of the most famous and frequented place in Rome, close to Vaticano.
