The Campidoglio Hill Rome

The ancient Mons Capitolinus, best knows as Campidoglio, along with Quirinale, Viminale, Palatino, Aventino, Celio and Esquilino is one of the seven hills Rome was built on.

Campidoglio was the main symbol of Rome “Caput Mundi” maintaining its importance as religious and political center.

Also we have to remember Campidoglio Square designed by Michelangelo as one of the most elegant in Europe. Center of the square the reproduction of Marco Aurelio bronzed statue (the original one can be admired inside Capitolini Museum). The square was saved from destruction (over the ages) because the riding personage was identified as Costantino, the first Christian Emperor.
