Charles Square - Prague
Crossed by the Jecna, Charles Square (Karlovo namesti), situated in the New City (Prague 2), was originally used as a livestock market and it boasts the title of biggest square of the city. Here there is the City Hall of the New City (Novomestska radnice), where in 1419 the first defenestration of Prague took place. Very beautiful is also the Jesuit Church of Saint Ignatius, in baroque style and dating back to 1671. At last the Faust House (main character of a popular German tale, that sales his soul to the devil in exchange of the absolute knowledge), that occupies the southwestern side of the square. Not far away there is the National Museum (situated in the Venceslao Square) and the Café Slavia (one of the most famous cafes in Prague).
