Vinohrady - Prague
Once king Charles IV had vineyards planted in this area that today is a residential district of Prague. It includes also parts of Prague 2, 3 and 10. In 1849 the independent community of Vinohrady was founded. In 1879 it obtained the status of city, and it was only in 1922 it was included in the city of Prague. The buildings that are found here (that date back to the XIX century) are splendid examples of different styles (Art Nouveau, neo gothic and neo renaissance). Vinohrady confines with the Riegrovy Sady Park on the southern side. Visiting the Television Tower is very pleasant experience for from it you can admire a fantastic 360 degrees view of the city. Another beauty of this area is the Peace Square where there is also the gothic church of Saint Ludmilla (in which very important sculptors have worked, such as the one who did the statue of saint Venceslao that is found in Venceslao Square).
