Troja Castle - Prague

Situated in the Prague 7 district, this castle dates back to the XVII century and it is one of the many examples that of the baroque style in the Czech Republic.  On the outside the wonderful French garden is considered amongst one of the most beautiful of Bohemia.  The complex of the Troja Castle was built in between 1697 and 1685 by J.B Marhey.  Very interesting is also the room decorated by A. Godine and by his son Isaak, that is found in the main building with three wings.  Also on the outside there is the monumental flight of steps on which there are sculptures of Greek goddesses fighting against the titans.  These were done by two sculptors of Dresda: J.J. and P. Hermann.  Spectacular is also the optical illusion off the frescoes of the imperial room that makes the ceiling look as if it were much higher than what it actually is.  The castle hosts a permanent exhibition: “Eternal summer in the roman villa”.  Other than the castle, in this same area there is the National Technical Museum, and the Tesla Arena, all quickly reachable from the close by Praha Holesovice Station.
