Prague Castle - Prague
The Prague Castle (Prazsky hrad), that rises in the Mala Strana district, considered today the major medieval fortress of the world, was founded in the IX century as shown in various archeological finds. The first nucleus of the castle was founded by the prince Borivoj, first christian sovereign belonging to the Premisliti. Today, within the complex you can find the Cathedral of Saint Vito, the convent and the basilica of saint George, and the royal palace. Other than representing a very important center of the political life, for it was the residence of the kings of Bohemia, of the emperors of the Holy Roman Empire, and of the presidents of the Czech Republic, it is also a very important religious center. Starting from the main entrance, where the changing of the guards takes place every day at 12, further on you will see a beautiful baroque door and at its right there is the Chapel of the Holy Cross. Very interesting is also the Rudolphine Gallery that instead is found in front of the Cathedral of Saint Vito, the most important church of Prague. Further on you will find the Royal Palace. One of the most beautiful monuments of the Prague Castle is the Basilica and the Monastery of Saint George. Surpassing the Basilica and the Monastery you will find the two towers, the Dallibor and the Polveri. Very particular is the Golden Alley, a series of houses where once there were the laboratories of the alchemists.
