Old City - Prague

The Old City (Stare Mesto) was populated right after the Mala Strana area was.  During the XII century Italians, Jews, and Germans settled here and occupied the space where today the Old City Square rises.  Coming from the Mala Strana, crossing Charles Bridge, you will get to the Old City.  On your left you will find the Church of Saint Salvator and right after it the Klementium (that today hosts the National Library), the biggest architectonical complex of the city after the Prague Castle.  A must of the Old City is the Bethlehem Chapel where the Czech revolutionary and reformer Jan Hus started to preach against the catholic church.  The Jan Palach Square takes the name of the university student that set himself on fire in 1968 to protest against the soviet invasion.
