Cathedral of Saint Vito - Prague

164 meters long and 60 meters large, the Cathedral of Saint Vito occupies the third court of the Prague Castle in Mala Strana.  With its Gothic majesty it is one of the biggest cathedrals of Europe.  Its construction started in 1344 on commission of Charles IV, following a series of events: the Hussite Wars, and the fire of 1541, and it ended 600 years later.  The first architects in charge were Mathieu de Arras and Parler.  The golden door on which Charles IV and Elisabeth Pomerania are depicted whilst in adoration of Christ, that is found on the right side of the cathedral was once the main entrance.  Inside you can find the imperial tomb, done by Alexander Collin.  The Chapel of Saint Venceslao (Patron of Prague), built by Peter Parler, is magnificently decorated with frescoes.  From the chapel you can see the door (closed by 7 locks) behind which the royal treasure is kept.

The Cathedral of Saint Vito is one of the most famous sites of Prague.  Inside the Prague Hotel Search Engine you can find all the informations about availability and rates of the Accommodations in Malastrana and around the Cathedral.
