Not far away from Berlin, situated in the southern side, the Schonefeld Airport is an important airport of the city. 
Inaugurated after the end of the World War II, it has been the most important airport of the German democratic Republic until the fall of the Berlin Wall. 
From Berlin, it is possible to reach the Schonefeld in various ways, amongst which the S45 annd the S9 lines of the S-Bahn railroad, or through the JetExpressBus, also known as the X/. 
Moreover, by 2011, the Schonefeld Airport will be widened, remaining the only airport of Berlin. 
Therefore, the Tegel Airport will be closed, and the same thing has happened, on October 30 2008, to the Tempelhof Airport. 
The name of the new airport has already been chosen: it will be called the Flughafen Berlin-Brandenburg International Airport, or more simply, the BBI.
