Tiergarten Park Berlin
Tiergarten Park Berlin
The Grober Tiergarten Park, or more simply the Tiergarten, of Berlin boasts the title of green lung of the German capital, with its extension of two hundred and ten hectares.
Originally it was a hunting area and it was only in 1830 that Tiergarten was first used as an actual park, thanks to the first Prussian King, Frederick I.
Unfortunately with the second world war the Tiergarten Park was seriously damaged because of the heavy bombardments, but in 1955 it was definitely restored.
Today, the park, situated in the homonymous Tiergarten District, part of the Mitte district, is an ideal site both for the tourists and for the citizens. Within it, you can visit the Berlin Zoo, situated in the southwestern side; or admire the Siegessaule, the Column of Victory, emblem of the city of Berlin.
