A must in Berlin is the Museums Island, a cultural and artistic heritage of the city. 
In 1999 in fact, the Museum Island was designated as one of the humanity heritages by the UNESCO. 
Situated in the Mitte district, the center of Berlin, on a small island along the Sprea river, the Museuminsel hosts five very prestigious museums, famous in the whole world: 
the Altes Museum and the Neues Museum (Old and New New Museums), that date back to the 1800;
the Alte Nationalgalerie (Old National Gallery) that is now being restyled;
the Bode Museum, that stands out amongst the others because of its splendid dome in copper;
and lastly, the Pergamonmuseum, that holds a replication in scale 1:1 of the Pergamon altar.
