Bebelplatz
Another site of Berlin that is full of historical meaning is the Babelplatz, that is situated within the Mitte district, right on the main street of the German capital, the Unter den Linden.
It is famous for the pyre of culture, the Bucherverbrennung, that is, when in May of 1933 the Nazis set on fire around twenty thousand books that were considered dangerous.
To honor the culture through a cathartic gesture, a sculpture representing a pile of books on which there are written the names of the most important personalities of the German culture, erects today in Babelplatz.
Moreover in 2006 the Babelplatz hosted hundreds of important personalities of the worldly contemporary culture at the event of the Table of Free Voices (ToFV).
From Babelplatz it is possible to easily reach the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, the Opera House of Berlin.
