The Monument to the Holocaust Victims
The Monument to the Holocaust Victims
Situated in proximity of the Brandenburg Gate, in the Mitte District, the real center of the German capital, there is the Denkmal fur die Ermodeten Juden, that is, the Monument in Memory of the Holocaust Victims, which is amongst the most recent monuments of the Neue Berlin.
Inaugurated in 2005, the Denkmal presents itself as a very particular mausoleum with almost three thousand blocks of concrete placed on a surface of around two hectares.
The stones are of different heights and different inclinations, and they allow each time an unrepeatable experience full of meaning. There is a perpendicular grill, that can be passed through only by foot, to reflect on the drama of the Holocaust, seen from the inside.
In the underground level there is a foundation dedicated to the victims of this terrible historical event.
