Checkpoint Charlie Berlin

Amongst the frontier areas between the East Germany, controlled by the USSR, and the West Germany, prerogative of the United States, the Checkpoint Charlie is the most vivid witness of what the cold war represented for the German population.
Located on Friedrichstrasse, in between the Mitte and the Kreuzberg, not far away from the Jewish Museum of Berlin, the Checkpoint Charlie is a piece of the wall that was built in 1961 and destroyed in 1989.
Almost thirty years, well documented by the homonymous museum, the Haus am Checkpoint Charlie, one of the most visited of the city.
The museum in fact, focuses on the history the Berlin Wall, exposing all the strategies of escape conceived to pass from the east side to the west side of the city, such as miniature submarines, a hot air balloon and other stratagems.
