Charlottenburg District
Location of the homonymous Charlottenburg Castle, the Charlottenburg district is located in the western part of the German capital, almost at the borderline with various districts such as the Tiergarten.
Charlottenburg was born as a little urban center, detached from Berlin, in which rich bourgeois lived in luxurious houses, and it was annexed to the rest of the city only in 1920.
Although inserted in the Big Berlin, the area of Charlottenburg was, until 1961, which is when the Berlin Wall was built, a very rich commercial area.
Today, in Charlottenburg it is possible to visit areas as the KaDeWe, the biggest mall of Europe, that has survived to the bombardments of 1943.
Amongst the other attractions of the Charlottenburg district, there is the Olympia-Stadion, (the Olympic stadium of Berlin), the Beate-Uhse Erotik Museum, and the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.
