Berlin Cathedral
Also known as the protestant St. Peter, the Berliner Dom is a cathedral in baroque style situated within the Mitte district.
It is possible to visit the Berlin Cathedral and then proceed to the Altes and Neues Museums or to the Pergamon Museum, since the cathedral is located within the beautiful Museuminsel of Berlin. The construction of the former Cathedral began in the first years of the twentieth century, but actually, the original structure dates back to 1465, on commission of the Hohenzollern royal family.
It was later replaced, in the middle of the XVIII century, by a baroque cathedral which was then, in the nineteenth century, restored by Schinkel in a neoclassical style.
A must is the dome, inlayed with mosaics, and the crypt, that contains more than eighty sarcophagi belonging to the Prussian royal family.
