Brandenbourg Gate Berlin
In between the Mitte district (the historical center of the city), and the Tiergarten district, it is possible to admire the most representative icon of Berlin.
The Brandenburg Gate, from which the famous avenue Unter den Linden starts, has undertaken, throughout the centuries, various restorations, full of historical and political significances.
Edified in the XVIII century, on the model of the Athenian Acropolis, the Brandenburg Gate, has been equipped with the chariot drawn by four horses with the iron cross in 1814.
The monument was severely damaged during the II World War and it was therefore, restored and completed only in 1958.
However, with the construction of the wall that divided Germany in two, the Gate was closed and the chariot rotated of 180 degrees so that the horses would face east, and not in the opposite direction of the wall.
With the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Brandenburg Gate was reopened, as a symbol of the end of the cold war and the German reunification.
