Alexanderplatz Berlin
Alexanderplatz Berlin
Originally a square for the livestock, it became the Alexanderplatz, after a visit of the zar Alexander I, and it is affectionately called Alex by its citizens. In the heart of Berlin, almost in the Mitte District, Alexanderplatz presents itself as a square with a socialist style, in spite of the new buildings built after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Behind this style there are obviously historical reasons: with the construction of the Wall, the square in fact, became the center of the East Berlin. Totally different from the Potsdamer Platz, “Alex” hosts one of the icons of Berlin: the Fernsehturm, which is the Television Tower, that became the emblem of the East Berlin, during the cold war.
